The Capital city is Bucharest. Romania is located in Southeastern Central Europe, on the lower Danube and bordering on the Black Sea. With an area of 238,391 square kilometers (91,780 square miles), Romania's population accounts for 21.6 million, the second largest country in Central and Eastern Europe. Romania borders the Republic of Moldova and the Ukraine to the North and Northeast, the Black Sea (193.5 km) to SE, Bulgaria to the south, Serbia to the Southwest, and Hungary to the Northwest. The Danube River forms Romania's Southern border. Nature has been particularly generous with the land of Romania with a varied relief (the Danube Delta, mountains) and numerous resources.
The climate is temperate-continental, specific to central Europe with local differences caused by Mediterranean and continental influences. The average temperature is 23° Celsius (72° F) in the summer and in the winter is -3° C (27° F). Political Structure
The Constitution, adopted by Parliament on November 1991, states Romania a parliamentary republic.
The President is elected directly by the citizens for a five-year term, while the bicameral Parliament is elected for four-year terms by universal vote. The bicameral parliament is composed of the Senate (137 seats) and the Chamber of Deputies (332 seats).The Prime Minister is appointed by the President and approved by the Parliament.
